What Is ACN?
American Communication Network (ACN) is a multilevel marketing (mlm) company that provides phone, internet, energy, security, and other essential everyday services to residents and businesses.
ACN opened for business in Concord, North Carolina in January 1993. The company was launched by Robert Stevanovski, Greg Provenzano, Tony Cupisz, and Mike Cupisz as a marketing arm for a long-distance reseller LCI Communication.
By 1998, ACN was listed as No. 22 of the 500 fastest-growing private companies in America by Inc. Magazine.
At the time of writing this review, ACN estimated sales revenue is $750 Million with over 200,000 IBOs operating in 26 countries and five continents.
ACN offers much detail as to the IBO’s annual income. Except, a strong warning that fewer than 1% of IBOs make any money with the company. This should be a strong warning to all investors looking to join ACN as an IBO.
You must carefully evaluate and compare ACN with other home-based business opportunities before joining.
You can use My #1 Business Opportunity to make a comparison.
How To Join ACN?
To join ACN, you are required to have a sponsor. Any current and active IBO ACN sponsor you into ACN.
You can easily find an ACN IBO online, then registered through that website.
To make money and maintain as an active IBO, you must pay the annual renewal fee and meet the customer recruiting requirements to qualify for commissions. We’ll discuss more on these in the following sections of this ACN review.
How Much Does It Cost To Join ACN?
The cost to join as an ACN IBO is $499 for an initial one-year term. If you want to remain as an active IBO after the first year, you must pay a $99 renewal fee.
Besides the initial cost, there are other business expenses to acquire customers and earn commissions. These expenses include your time, marketing costs, travel expenses, and gas.
As you can see, the cost to join ACN is more than $499. You must meet the customer acquisition requirements to qualify for commission. Any distributor that fails to meet these requirements is not allowed to receive the bonuses and commissions.
The $499 is a membership fee to join ACN, nothing more. If you cannot recruit others to join your team or switch their services, you earn nothing.
Other home-based businesses, such as Affiliate Marketing, you earn the commission on every sale, no need to pay for a membership fee or recruit others to qualify for commissions.
To understand why mlm opportunities, such as ACN, require IBOs to stay active and qualified, you should read our discussion on the FTC MLM Guideline for more information.
ACN Compensation Plan
The ACN compensation plan IBO two options to make money, sign up new customers or recruit others to join your team.
When a customer switches their existing home services to ACN, you earn a customer acquisition bonus and the monthly residual income.
Earnings are calculated using a point-based system where each service is assigned customer points by ACN.
I’ll provide a brief explanation of the ACN compensation plan below. To see the full version, just download a copy.
Switch Your Own Home Services To ACN
To qualify for commissions, you must switch your own home services to ACN.
ACN requires all IBOs to maintain 7 personal customer points from at least 3 services to consider as a qualified IBO.
Many new IBOs switch their phone service, TV service, and home electricity to ACN upon joining the program to meet this qualification requirement.
As you can see, the ACN compensation plan was designed to convert people into customers, not business owners.
Once you are a qualified IBO, here are your options to make money with ACN.
Make Money Acquiring Customers
ACN pays between 1% to 10% commission on your personal acquired customers’ monthly service bills.
The commission rate is determined based on the type of services that your personal customers purchased from ACN.
Each service is assigned customer points. You earn customer points when your personally acquired customers switch their services to ACN. The more customer points that you earn, the higher the commission rate.
Here’s the breakdown of your personal customer commissions:
Based on the commission above, the more services that your personal customers switch to ACN, the more money you will earn.
So, the best way to have a lot of paid customers is by recruiting IBOs. IBOs are required to switch their home services to ACN to qualify for commissions.
Make Money Recruiting Others To Join ACN
ACN offers from a ¼% to 8% of overriding income up to 7 levels.
However, you must be a qualified IBO with at least 10 personal customer points to receive override commissions.
As you can see, there are multiple ways to earn with ACN mlm. But to get paid, you need to be a qualified IBO.
This is how mlm works. Ways to earn is not the same as qualifying to receive the commissions.
Many IBOs earn nothing with ACN because the costs to maintain an active and qualified status might exceed the commissions that they received.
Can You Make Money With ACN?
You will need the income disclosure statement (IDS) to determine whether you can make money with ACN.
The IDS is a financial document that reports distributors’ income for the prior years.
Mlm company with high distributor failure rates or low earnings rarely publish the income disclosure statement. This seems to be the case with ACN.
ACN doesn’t publish a full income disclosure statement. The company only issues a warning that fewer than 1% of IBOs make money.
So, how do you get a copy of the IDS?
You can request one at the time of enrollment. The law requires ACN to provide you a copy together with the compensation plan.
If ACN refuses to provide you a copy of the income disclosure statement, don’t join.
But you don’t need a copy of the IDS to know that 99% of mlm businesses failed.
Because ACN disclosures this in their earnings statement, fewer than 1% of IBOs make money. This is the same as saying over 99% of IBOs will fail.
The reason you cannot make money with ACN is that the compensation plan was designed to recruit customers, not business owners.
Just go back and review the compensation plan discussion above, why you think IBOs must meet the minimum monthly personal customer points to maintain an active and qualified status for commissions?
Is ACN Legit Or A Scam?
I have to say ACN is not a scam. This is a business opportunity. Every business opportunity has risks.
As an investor, you are responsible for researching, studying, and investigating ACN before joining.
Reading ACN Reviews is one way to learn the risks and rewards associated with this home-based business opportunity.
ACN even offers a warning that fewer than 1% of IBOs make money. If you invest, your chance of failure is 99% and more.
As the owner of an Online Business Review, I have evaluated hundreds of mlm businesses to help investors identified and discover the right opportunity to make money from home.
As a business opportunity, ACN is not a scam. It is an unprofitable opportunity.
Is ACN A Pyramid Scheme?
We know that ACN follows the FTC guideline to avoid being considered a pyramid scheme.
But the FTC only offers a legal definition of a pyramid scheme.
When you launch a business, your goal is to make money. So, you have to look at the company’s compensation plan together with the IBOs’ income when evaluating ACN.
If you look at the ACN compensation plan, IBOs are forced to switch home services to earn commissions.
IBOs are essentially customers of ACN, purchasing services to stay active and qualified.
Recruiting is the best option to make money. The more people you recruit, the more money you make. This is how a pyramid is built.
I know that you don’t have to agree with me that ACN is a pyramid scheme.
But you can’t deny that the compensation plan was designed to turn you into an ACN customer, not a business owner.
Is ACN Worth It?
ACN tells you that your chance of making money is less than 1%. Do you think this opportunity worth it?
I will never invest in a business opportunity when the failure rate is 99% or more.
ACN is not a profitable home-based business opportunity. You will not get rich as an ACN IBO.
However, the decision to join ACN mlm is yours.
Let me ask you this,
Do you know why you want to start a home-based business?
To earn extra money from home, to be your own boss, or to achieve financial freedom?

ACN mlm was launched as a marketing arm for a long-distance company.
ACN is in the business of recruiting customers, not business owners.
The best option to make money with ACN is building a big team because your primary business revenue is from team commissions.
If you are not a good recruiter, you are unlikely to make money with ACN.
There are much better home-based business opportunities that require not face-to-face sales or building a team.
