Taking online surveys is an easy and popular method to earn a few bucks online.

Many beginners mistakenly believe that taking surveys to make money online is less time consuming than Affiliate marketing or blogging.

The truth is affiliate marketing is a long-term business that requires a lot of work at the start, but earnings are a thousand times more than taking surveys.

Before jumping online and start joining survey sites like MyPoints, I suggest you read this MyPoints Review to learn the in and out of online surveys.

MyPoints Review

This review is about a popular reward website called MyPoints. This website allows members to accumulate points by performing online activities such as surfing the web, playing games, watching videos, shopping online, taking surveys, and more.

Members can exchange points for prizes, gift cards, or cash once they accumulated enough points, which is 700 points ($5).

MyPoints is very user-friendly. It offers clear information on how many points you’ll earn for a given survey and how long it takes to complete.

Note: When taking surveys with MyPoints, paid attention to surveys marked with a star, this indicates the surveys will be closing soon.

MyPoints Story

MyPoints was established in 1996. This website is owned and operated by United Online, Inc, a California based organization, which also owns sites such as FTD, Juno, and NetZero.

MyPoints is a free membership site available to everyone in the US and Canada. International users can still sign up for a free account, but not all prizes are available to them.

Mypoints is a FREE reward website where people can join and earn points to redeem for cash or rewards like InboxDollars, Ebates, and other survey sites.

How Does MyPoints Work?

You have to register for a free account with MyPoints to start earning.

The registration process is very simple, but you must meet certain requirements.

To become a member, you need a valid email address, a resident of the U.S. or Canada, and at least 18 years of age.

How to Sign Up with MyPoints?

Once you visit MyPoints.com, just click the join now button and provide your email with all the information required.

The next step is to log into your email and confirm your account. This completed the registration process.

For those that like to sign up with their phone, you can download MyPoints mobile app to register.

Important Note

MyPoints offers several bonus points with the sign-up process: 1 point for completing 10 profile questions, 100 points for downloading the app, and a $10 gift card once you spend $20 or more on qualified purchases within 30 days. Be sure to collect all these bonus points to redeem for cash which I’ll show you how below.

Once you have confirmed your account with MyPoints, you have several options to earn points which you can pick in the next section.

Ways to Make Money with MyPoints

MyPoints offers its members a large variety of ways to earn points which they later can convert into gift cards, airline miles, or cash.

Here are the options available for you to earn points:

Earn points taking surveys

The surveys are an easy option to earn points with MyPoints. There are three ways to participate:

  1. You can log into your account and check the ‘Surveyzone’ for new surveys. If you see anything interesting, you can click on the link to complete that survey.
  2. You can earn points doing SurveyMails which are sent to you daily. This is nothing more than qualified surveys sent directly into your email address.
  3. Participating in online panels testing new products at home is another option to earn points.

Survey Note: You may not know if you qualify to complete a survey until you answer the background questions. Unlike other survey sites, where you receive nothing for disqualification, MyPoints give you 10 points which means you earn about $0.07 even if you are not qualified. This is a nice feature.

The pay rate for each survey varies according to its length, but will never more than $6.

For a ten-minute survey, you earn 50 points which equate to about 35 cents each.

These survey points are immediately available upon completing the survey. There is no waiting period like other paid survey websites.

Earn points reading email

MyPoints sends out BonusMails daily to members. These are email links that have 5 points of reward value.

You earn 5 points for clicking on the link within the emails.

This activity takes less than 15 seconds which you make about $0.035.

Earn points shopping online

The best offer is within the first 30 days joining MyPoints. As a new member, when you spend $20 or more on qualified purchases, you receive 1,750 points which equate to about $10 cashback. This offer only available to new users.

MyPoints has over 2,000 affiliate retail partners, which members can earn points by purchasing products or services through their link.

Points are varied according to what you buy, how much you spend, or the merchant offers. You can earn anywhere between 2 points per $1 up to 15 points per $1.

MyPoints cash back rewards are not as high as the top-notch shopping reward sites like Ebates and InboxDollars, but they are an option for you to consider.

In-Store purchase cash back

A few times, MyPoints offers in-store deals that let members earn points for eligible purchases by uploading the receipt to your account.

These deals are rare compared to Ebates, which you can earn on every purchase, but the in-store promotions are a good way to get a great deal.

Watching videos to earn points

Watching video is a fast and easy way to earn points with MyPoints.

Every member can earn 1 point for every video watched with a daily limit of 10 videos.

You can watch the videos on the desktop, laptop, or smartphone.

Each video is about 1 to 3 minutes long.

Earn points searching the web

This is another simple option to get points by using the MyPoints built-in Yahoo search tool as a default search engine.

Points are rewarded randomly based on the number of searches completed each month. The more you search, the more you earn.

Example: If you made 11 to 25 searches a month, you earn 10 points. But, if your searches are more than 41, you earn 100 points. It is not clear how MyPoints calculated and rewarded these points.

You will also have the chance to win instant prizes and rewards which are a surprise.

Earn points playing games

You can earn between 5 to 10 points playing some of your favorite games at MyPoints.

The website also has slot machine games where you could potentially win big.

Make easy points

Download and install a browser extension called MyPoints Score. This toolbar will alert you when you are on a partner website where you can track your purchases and earn points accordingly.

You can click on the ‘Easy Point’ tab once a month to earn 5 points by answering a few questions such as do you need to find a contractor? Or do you use coupons? You can either reject or accept the offer and still earn points.

You can also earn points using Groupon, LivingSocial goods, and voucher purchases.

Print coupons and earn points

You earn 10 points for each coupon that printed and used at local stores. This is a great way to save and earn cashback with MyPoints.

Note: 10 points equal to about 6.2 cents cash back on top of the savings the coupon provides.

The more coupon you print and redeem, the more you earn. For 10 to 15 coupons, you earn 25 points, and 16 or more you earn 50 points.

Earn points referring friends

MyPoints has the most generous referral program among survey sites.

Here’s what you receive for referring a new member to MyPoints:

  • 25 points for each referral that confirmed the account.
  • 750 points once the referral spends $20 or more through MyPoints
  • 10% of all points earned by the referral

There is no limitation on the number of invitations.

How to Get Payment from MyPoints?

There are three ways MyPoints member can redeem their points:

  • Gift Cards: Redeem your points for over 85 different types of gift cards such as Amazon, Barnes and Noble, JC Penny, and more.
  • Cash: Direct deposit into a PayPal account
  • Travel Miles: Add travel miles into United MileagePlus account

The lowest points you can redeem is 700 points for a $5 for a gift card.

For cash payout, MyPoints requires a minimum of 3,970 points or a PayPal payment of $25. This means each point is worth a little over half a cent. PayPal redemption usually takes 4-5 days to process the payout request.

Converting points to cash

For gift card redemption, one MyPoints point is about 0.007 cents, while

For PayPal or cash payout, one MyPoints point is about 0.006 cents.

MyPoints offers a better rate for gift cards payout over cash options.

The Cost to Join MyPoints

MyPoints is free to join. However, you earn 30 points, about $0.21, upon completing the profile.

You also could make another $10 within 30 days by spending more than $20 on qualified purchases.

MyPoints pay 21 cents for people to join which is low compared to Ebates which offers $5 for a free account.

Is MyPoints a Scam?

Online survey sites are not a scam. MyPoints is a legit way to make quick money online.

MyPoints Complaints

Some recent complaints against MyPoints have raised a few red flags for me such as poor communication, missing points, or even having your account shut down indefinitely without proper grounds once you request payment.

No Customer Service”

October 19, 2018, by Frances from the United States

Like others, I participated in this reward program for many years, but as of late I have had real problems. My last two large purchases were not rewarded at all. The real problem is that each time I contacted them I received the same generic form email in response which is not a response at all. From now on I will get the five points for opening a website when available but if I make a purchase it’s EBATES all the way. Hope they don’t go under before I cash out!! I can’t believe their fate won’t be determined by their complete lack of customer service.

“Missing points”

October 11, 2018, by SHAWN from the United States

They do not like to give what is earned when it is earned. For 3+ months I’ve been trying to get my points added that I earned. They do not respond to your tickets.

I was a member for 20 years and have cashed out many times. I used to save my points for years without cashing out, so I could save for a major purchase. A few months ago, I had approximately $120 worth of points for an Amazon gift card. However, one day my balance magically went down to 0! After several emails investigate, I was told that my account was breached, and I was advised by customer service that I needed to go through this onerous 12 step procedure to reactivate my account. This involved that I not only change my e-mail address but also changing the BIOS settings on my computer and other technical acrobatic procedures. In other words, MyPoints was basically telling me “tough luck”. Beware!

It is difficult to know which complaints are valid, which are not. However, it is a red flag to watch out nonetheless.

Success rate

The MyPoints success rate is low compared to other survey sites. There is a little disconnection between the profile information and the survey qualification. Sometimes, it is not clear whether you are taking the survey or a survey qualification questionnaire.

MyPoints also send out more invitations than a survey requires. When this happens, clicking on a survey would immediately redirect to your profile page.

Even though MyPoints pays 5 points for disqualification, but only for the first five surveys per day. There is a possibility that you can only earn 25 points a day. This isn’t worth the trouble.

Is MyPoints Worth It or A Waste of Time?

MyPoints is a good option to earn some coffee money. It is not for people looking to make a living online. The pay rate is too low.

Earning breakdown: A 10-minute survey pays roughly $0.35. At this pay rate, you make $2.10 per hour. There is no way you can live on this salary.

Paid online surveys aren’t the best way to make money, but the work is easy, and you could probably tackle these surveys while watching TV to earn some pocket change.

If you decide to try survey-taking, I suggest you choose Ebates. It is a better option. You can read my Ebates Review to learn more.

Well, we all know that we are not going to get rich with online surveys, and MyPoints is not an opportunity for people to achieve financial freedom.

If you’re interested in starting an online business or making serious cash to supplement your income, then you need to read the next section where I share with you how I build a $6,000 monthly income with just one website.
