What Is WineShop At Home?

WineShop At Home is a multilevel marketing (mlm) company that distributes and promotes one-of-a-kind and exclusive wines, which allow consultants an opportunity to make money by promoting the company artisan wines through in-home Wine Tastings.

WineShop At Home distributes wines exclusively through an mlm network of over 5,000 consultants operating across the United States.

WineShop At Home was launched by John and Melissa Lynch in 2004 to promote and distribute their specialty wines offering through the 1-800-WineShop website since 1995.

At the time of writing this review, WineShop At Home estimated sales revenue is $15 Million.

However, I couldn’t locate an income disclosure statement (IDS) for WineShop At Home. This is a warning for those interested in joining this mlm opportunity.

The IDS financial document provides crucial information regarding the profits and losses of operating a WineShop At Home mlm business.

Missing the income disclosure statement, it makes you wonder what WineShop At Home is trying to hide?

You must carefully consider and compare WineShop At Home opportunity with other home-based business opportunities before joining.

You can use My #1 Business Opportunity to make a comparison.

How To Join WineShop At Home?

You need a sponsor to join WineShop At Home.

It is easy to find a current WineShop At Home consultant online, then registered through that referral website, or you can visit the WineShop At Home’s website and request for a local consultant near you.

However, to build a business and make money with WineShop At Home, you are required to purchase a business starter kit, remain active, and qualified for commissions. I’ll discuss all of this in the following sections of this WineShop At Home review.

How Much Does It Cost To Join WineShop At Home?

The cost to join WineShop At Home is $39, $59.95, $149 or $299, depending on the business kit you purchased.

WineShop At Home review business kits

These business kits contain products and marketing materials for you to launch your WineShop At Home.

However, purchasing the $299 business kit will qualify you for higher commissions.

Besides the starter kit cost, you must maintain an active and qualified status to make money with WineShop At Home.

Consultants must submit at least $300 order in retail personal volume every three months or $100 each month to maintain an active status.

WineShop At Home requires consultants to generate at least $300 retail personal volume each month to qualify for higher commissions and bonuses. I’ll discuss more on this in the compensation plan section of this WineShop At Home review.

As you can see, the cost to join WineShop At Home is more than a business kit. You must purchase products regularly to maintain an active and qualified for commissions.

Any consultant fails to maintain an active and qualified status is not allowed to receive bonuses and commissions.

The expenses above do not include your time, the marketing costs, travel expenses, and gas.

Purchasing WineShop At Home products to meet the monthly qualified requirements can destroy your business profits if you cannot resell them. They become business losses.

Other home-based businesses, such as Affiliate Marketing, you earn the commission on every sale, no need to be active and qualified.

If you like to learn why mlm companies, such as WineShop At Home, require consultants to stay active and qualified, you should read our discussion on the FTC MLM Guideline for more information.

WineShop At Home Compensation Plan

It’s not easy to locate a copy of the WineShop At Home compensation plan. But I managed to find a copy for us to review.

I’ll try to provide a quick explanation of the WineShop At Home compensation plan. To see the full version, you can download a copy by click on the link.

Similar to other mlm opportunities, WineShop At Home offers you two options to make money: selling wines and/or recruiting new consultants.

Make Money Selling Wines

You earn retail commissions by offering wines at retail price through in-home tasting, website sale, or from your own inventory.

All new consultants start out with a 20% based retail commission.

The based commission increases 5% every time you meet the following monthly sales volume: at $1,500, $2,500, and $3,500.

So as a WineShop at Home consultant, you have an opportunity to earn up to 35% retail commission.

It sounds easy, right? But, can you sell WineShop At Home wines on the market?

I visited the company’s website and found the wine prices ranging from $17 to a few hundred dollars.

WineShop At Home scam products

If you know wine, it’s very difficult to tell the price of a wine bottle unless you tasted it.

From what I see, WineShop At Home prices are reasonable.

Make Money Recruiting Others

As long as you remain active and qualified, you have the options to make money by recruiting others into your team.

Business Building Bonus (BBB)

WineShop At Home offers a 3% business building bonus on the monthly Personal Volume (PV) of all your personally sponsored consultants if you meet the following requirements:

  • Maintain an active status
  • Have at least 1 active consultants on your team
  • Submit $600 in Personal Volume for the month
Team Leader Bonus

Starting at the Team Leader rank, you can earn 5% team leader bonus on the total of your team sales volume of the month.

To earn this bonus, you must be qualified by:

  • Generate at least $1,000 of personal sales volume in the month
  • Must have 3 or more personally sponsored active consultant on your team
  • Total month team sales volume minimum of $3,500.
Generation Leadership Bonus

Your team grows and break away every time one of your personally sponsored consultants achieves a Team Leader rank. When this happens, you will earn a 5% generation leadership bonus on the total retail sales of all your qualified First-Generation Team Leaders.

There are other leadership bonuses and incentives which require more purchasing of WineShop At Home wines to qualify. You can review the compensation plan for more info on these bonuses and commissions.

As you can see, there are multiple ways to earn with WineShop At Home. But to get paid, you must maintain an active and generate enough sales to qualify for commission.

This is how mlm works. Ways to earn is not the same as qualifying to receive the money.

You can potentially earn nothing with WineShop At Home because the cost of purchasing products to maintain an active and qualified status might exceed the commissions received.

Can You Make Money With WineShop At Home?

You have the potential to make money with WineShop At Home.

But if you want to know the actual income earned by WineShop consultants, you have to look at the income disclosure statement (IDS), not the compensation.

The IDS is a financial document that reports consultants’ income for the prior year.

Mlm company with high consultant failure rates and low earnings rarely publishes the income disclosure statement. This might be the case with WineShop At Home. I strongly suggest you get a copy of the WineShop At Home income disclosure statement before investing.

But, how do you get a copy of the IDS?

You can request one at the time of enrollment. The law requires WineShop At Home to provide you a copy together with the compensation plan.

As a business review writer, I look to the actual incomes to evaluate the business opportunity.

If WineShop At Home refuses to provide you a copy of the income disclosure statement, don’t join. This is a bad sign. The opportunity might not profitable, or it might be a scam.

But you don’t need a copy of the income disclosure to know that 99% of mlm businesses failed.

Why?

Because the WineShop At Home compensation plan is not designed for you to make money. It’s designed for the company to sell wines.

Just go back and review the compensation plan discussion above, why you think consultants must maintain an active and qualified status to earn commissions?

Is WineShop At Home A Scam?

WineShop At Home was launched to promote and sell 1-800-WineShop, not for you to make money. But this doesn’t make WineShop At Home a scam.

WineShop At Home is a business opportunity. Every business has risks.

You are responsible to carefully research, study, and investigate the business opportunity before joining.

Reading this WineShop At Home Review is a good way to learn the risks and rewards associated with this home-based business.

Many entrepreneurs hire professional financial analysts to evaluate business profits and losses before investing.

As the owner of an Online Business Review, I have evaluated hundreds of mlm businesses to help investors identified and discover the right home-based business opportunity to invest.

Look, WineShop At Home is not a scam. It’s a risky and unprofitable business opportunity.

Is WineShop At Home A Pyramid Scheme?

WineShop At Home is a legit mlm company if they follow the FTC guideline.

But who invest in a business just because it follows the laws?

I look at the compensation plan and the consultants’ income to evaluate an investment opportunity.

If you look at the WineShop At Home compensation plan, consultants are forced to purchase wines to remain active and earn commissions.

Recruiting is the best option to make money, not selling wines.

The more people you recruit, the more money you make. This is how a pyramid scheme is built.

Every consultant becomes a customer of WineShop At Home, purchasing products to stay active and qualified.

Doesn’t this business structure similar to a pyramid scheme?

Well, you don’t have to agree with me.

But you can’t deny that it’s not easy to make money as a WineShop At Home consultant. The compensation plan was designed to turn you into a customer, not a business owner.

Is WineShop At Home Worth It?

If you drink a lot of wines, then joining WineShop At Home might be worth it, for the discounts.

If you are looking for a profitable home-based business opportunity, I don’t think WineShop At Home worth it. It is unlikely that you will achieve your financial dream with this opportunity.
