As a Twitch Affiliate, you are on your way to get paid playing video.
Twitch will not pay you just because you receive and activate your Twitch Affiliate account. To make money on Twitch, you need to learn how to monetize your Twitch channel to maximize earning with Twitch.
How To Make Money On Twitch
Twitch Affiliates have two options to monetize their Twitch TV: on Twitch platform and off Twitch platform.
Let’s look at how to get paid on Twitch?
Twitch Affiliate make money on the Twitch platform from three sources:
- Viewers Monthly Subscriptions
- Sharing Twitch Bits Revenue
- Commission from the sale of games or in-game items on Twitch
Make money on Twitch subscriptions
Twitch Affiliates are allowed to accept subscriptions to their channel from viewers.
Viewer subscription is the primary source of affiliate earnings on Twitch. This is a recurring income which Twitch Affiliates earn 50% from each sale.
Twitch has three levels of monthly subscriptions:
Level 1 – $4.99 with Twitch Affiliate makes $2.49
Level 2 – $9.99 with Twitch Affiliate makes $4.99
Level 3 – $24.99 with Twitch Affiliate earns $12.49
The more subscriptions a Twitch Affiliate can generate, the more he/she can make on Twitch.
So, it is wise to encourage followers to subscribe to your channel choosing one of the subscription levels above.
Your viewers can subscribe to your channel as soon as you activate Twitch Affiliate account.
To encourage viewers to subscribe, Twitch Affiliates should set up an alert popping up on the gamers screens saying that somebody has purchased a subscription to motivate other viewers to take action.
Make money with Twitch Bits
Twitch Affiliate earns one cent for every Bit fan use on their channels.
Bits are Twitch virtual money that viewers purchase using either Amazon Payments or PayPal.
Viewers then use Twitch Bits in a form of donations to show support or cheer on their favorite gamers’ channel.
Using Twitch Bits viewers can also buy emotes or Cheermotes to use in chat.
All Twitch Affiliates receive one global subscriber emote with their affiliate account which they can make money when a viewer purchase and use this emote.
Twitch Affiliates are allowed to purchase two additional emotes for viewers in the $9.99 and $24.99 monthly subscription levels. You should add these two emotes to your Twitch Affiliate account to make more money on Twitch.
Smart Twitch Affiliates always encourage their viewers to donate or cheer in their channel. This helps to increase the affiliate earnings with Twitch.
There are two ways that Twitch Affiliate can encourage viewers to donate Bits:
- You can issue Cheer Chat Badge to active viewers on your channel. The more Bits a viewer spends, the better Cheer Chat Badge he/she received. When using this strategy, remember to set a minimum number of Bits require to cheer or the smallest emote can be used in your channel. This prevents people from spamming your chat with too many Bits or big emote.
- Another encouragement strategy is to add a ‘StreamLabs Tip Jar’ to your stream. This half-empty Jar is filling up as viewers using Bits on your channel. When viewers see this half-empty Jar, they encourage to fill it up more quickly to show their support.
Get paid on Twitch from selling games, in-game items, and T-shirts
Twitch Affiliates get paid a 5% commission from the sale of games and in-game items from their channel.
The sales box is automatically appeared on the affiliate channel offering viewers the opportunity to purchase the game or in-game items that the streamer is currently playing.
This is less favorable earning options compared subscriptions and Bits revenue. However, it is still a good method for Twitch Affiliate to make money on Twitch
Make money from Twitch Ads
Soon, Twitch Affiliate can opt to run ads on their channel. But for now, the sharing of advertising revenue is only available to partners.
Many Twitch partners choose not to include ads on their stream, because viewers dislike ads, and it requires a high level of followers to generate meaningful income for a streamer. Therefore, it doesn’t worth the risk of losing viewers.
Besides making money on the Twitch platform, here are other non-Twitch based revenue options that many Twitch Affiliates have used to maximize their income.
Affiliate Marketing
Twitch Affiliates can use their Twitch page to promote products that interested to their viewers.
The easiest way to do this is by setting up a Blog Site and then add the link to this blog on the Twitch page.
You can then promote your Twitch page in your feed to direct fans to the blog.
Your fans want to know what you are doing beside streams on Twitch.
They will follow the link on the Twitch page to visit your blog to learn more about you.
You can promote games and other products on your blog with affiliate links that allow fans to purchase right on the blog. When someone purchases through your affiliate link, you receive a commission for the sale.
Affiliate marketing is a more lucrative way for Twitch affiliates to make money online.
If you don’t have a Blog or don’t know how to start a blog, here is a Free Training Program that I suggest taking to learn the process of creating a blog.

Brand Sponsorship
You don’t even need Twitch Affiliate status to look for sponsorship.
These partnership deals with brands are made outside of Twitch. It has nothing to do with the Twitch Affiliate program.
Many games related businesses often partner with gamers who can influence their followers’ decision making to help promote their products. This type of relationship is also known as ‘influencer marketing’.
You can command a lot of money if you have a Blog and a Twitch Affiliate account with enthusiastic and engaged followers. Brand loves these gamers because they can influence their viewers both on and off Twitch.
Remember earlier I told you that using a Blog is a powerful way to make money together with your Twitch Affiliate Status. This is what I am talking about.
You cannot achieve $100,000 a month with Twitch Affiliate only. But if you use a Blog, you can achieve this financial goal.
You should take these 10 Free Lessons to learn and set up your own blog site with your Twitch Affiliate account.
Ask for financial support from viewers
You can ask followers to help finance your Twitch channel to allow you more time to create better content for them on Twitch.
This is the same as asking for donations, but with real money, not Bits.
Before you can ask for financial support, you will have to set up an online account with PayPal to accept the donations.
You can ask for donations on your Twitch page or in your stream and provide the account information for viewers to send the money.
To encourage more donation, you set a donation goal and show progress towards that goal.
Above are some top options for Twitch Affiliates to make money on Twitch. If you want to get paid playing game, you must look beyond Twitch Affiliate to earn a full-time income.
