What Is Plexus?
Plexus is a multilevel marketing company that manufactures, distributes and sells health and wellness supplements that help you feel healthy and happy. The company’s flagship product is called “Plexus Slim”.
Plexus was founded by Tarl Robinson, Alfred Pettersen, and Alec Clark in 2006 with the mission to create health and happiness through products, values, opportunity, and support.
Plexus distributes its products exclusively through an mlm network of over 700,000 active ambassadors operating worldwide.
Plexus estimated sales revenue is $527 million.
However, your chance of making a good income with the Plexus business opportunity is low, less than 2%.
The company income disclosure statement (IDS) reported over 50% of ambassadors earned an average monthly income of $12.17.
I strongly urge you to carefully consider and compare Plexus with other home-based business opportunities before investing.
You can use The Best MLM Opportunity to make a comparison.
How To Become A Plexus Ambassador?
You need a sponsor to become a Plexus Ambassador.
You can easily find a Plexus sponsor by searching online and register through that website.
You can submit your own application with appropriate fees to launch your Plexus business.
Paying the registration fee is not enough. If you want to build a business and earn all commissions with Plexus, you must be an active and qualified ambassador.
Active and qualified require purchasing a Welcome Pack and/or meeting the monthly sales quota, which I’ll discuss in the next section of this Plexus review.
How Much Does It Cost To Join Plexus?
The cost to join Plexus is $39 per year for the annual membership fee.
To earn bonuses, commissions, and start building a business with Plexus, you must either generate $100 PV (Personal Volume) or purchase one of the Welcome Pack with the price ranging from $99 to $199.
Besides the initial investment, there are other expenses to stay in business.
Plexus requires all Ambassadors to maintain an active and qualified status by ordering at least $100 PV every month.
As you can see, the cost to join Plexus is more than $39. You must also include the cost to become active and qualified.
You must pay attention to the monthly Qualified Expenses.
Plexus is a Pay and Play business opportunity. If you want to earn, you have to pay.
Any ambassador that fails to order the minimum $100 PV each month is not qualified to receive the bonuses and commissions from Plexus.
Remember, the expenses above do not include your time, the marketing costs, travel expenses, and gas.
Purchasing products to meet the active and qualified requirements can destroy your business profit if you cannot resell them. They become business losses.
Other home-based businesses, such as Affiliate Marketing, you earn the commission on every sale, no need to be active and qualified.
Do you know why Plexus requires ambassadors to be active and qualified?
Two reasons, to sell products and to avoid being classified as a pyramid scheme under the FTC guideline. (Check our MLM vs Affiliate Marketing for the discussion on the FTC MLM Guideline.)
Plexus Compensation Plan
The Plexus compensation is just an outline of all the options for ambassadors to make money. It is not a statement of income.
I’ll provide a quick analysis of the Plexus compensation plan. To see it in detail, just download a copy.
As an mlm opportunity, Plexus offers you two ways to earn: Sell Products and/or build a team.
Make Money Selling Plexus Slim
As a Plexus ambassador, you can either purchase products at a wholesale price to resell or direct customers to purchase from the replicated Plexus website to earn a retail commission.
Retail commissions are determined as follows:
- 0% commission on the first $100 sales
- 15% for $101 to $499 in sales volume
- 25% commission for sales volume over $500.
Plexus offers up to 25% retail commission. But the question is, can you make money selling Plexus products on the market?
Well, I did a quick research on eBay, the famous online market to dump mlm products, and I found hundreds of Plexus Slim dumping on eBay for as low as $15. This item sells on the Plexus website for $89.95.
This tells us a lot of ambassadors are dumping their inventories on eBay because they cannot sell Plexus products at the suggested retail price.
Overprice is the reason why ambassadors have a hard time to make money selling Plexus products on the market.
Make Money Recruiting Plexus Ambassadors
When you cannot sell products, the best option to make money is recruiting others to join Plexus.
As long as you are active and qualified, here are your options to make money.
Retail Override Commissions
You can earn 5% retail override commissions on your personal ambassadors’ sales volume over $100 PV.
Business Builder Bonus (BBB)
You earn a business builder bonus every time a new ambassador purchased a welcome pack.
When a new ambassador purchases a welcome package, you can earn between $5 to $25 depending on your upline level. If you are the sponsor, you get paid $25.
There are other bonuses, commissions, and incentives which require more purchasing of Plexus overpriced products to qualify. You can refer to the compensation plan
for more information.
As you can see, there are multiple ways to earn with Plexus. But to get paid, you must remain active and qualified.
This is how mlm works. Ways to earn is not the same as qualifying to receive the money.
You can potentially earn nothing under the Plexus compensation plan because the costs to remain active and qualified might exceed the commissions received.
Can You Make Money With Plexus?
Many people use the Plexus compensation plan to evaluate their business income. This is wrong.
Here’s what I mean,
The Plexus compensation plan ways for you to EARNINGS, not real income.
To analyze Plexus Ambassadors’ income, you need a copy of the Plexus Income Disclosure Statement (IDS). This financial document provides ACTUAL INCOMES that ambassadors received from Plexus.
But, where can you get a copy of the IDS?
You can request one at the time of enrollment. The law requires Plexus to provide you a copy together with the compensation plan.
As a business review writer, I look to the actual incomes to advise clients on an investment.
If Plexus refuses to provide you a copy of the income disclosure statement, don’t join. This is a sign of a scam.
However, I have a copy of the Plexus income disclosure statement for us to use with this Plexus review.
Plexus Ambassador Income
According to the Plexus income disclosure statement, about 95% of ambassadors earned an average annual income of less than $4,982. This means they earned less than $415 per month.
Before you get excited and concluded, “Yes, I can make money with Plexus!” I like to point out that this is the gross commissions, before taking out taxes and expenses.
What happens if you deduct the business expenses from this commission?
95% of Plexus ambassadors made no money after deducting all expenses.
What about the remaining 5%? How many ambassadors really make money with Plexus?
Well, this financial report tells us only 0.5% of Plexus ambassadors make more than $39,441 per year.
After reviewing the income disclosure statement, I can tell you that your chance of making money with Plexus is near zero.
Why I am so confident?
Because only a small group of ambassadors made money with Plexus.
How can you possibly achieve the top 0.5% income group in the first few years?
Plexus business opportunity is not profitable.
Is Plexus A Scam?
Yes, it’s not easy to make money selling Plexus products. But Plexus is not a scam.
Plexus is a business opportunity. Every business has risks.
You are responsible to carefully research, study, and investigate Plexus before becoming an ambassador.
Reading this Plexus Review is a good way to learn the risks and rewards associated with this mlm business opportunity.
Many entrepreneurs hire professional financial analysts to evaluate business profitability and loss before investing.
As the owner of an Online Business Review, I have evaluated hundreds of mlm businesses to help investors identified the right home business opportunity.
As a business opportunity, Plexus is not a scam. It is a risky and unprofitable business.
Is Plexus A Pyramid Scheme?
Mlm companies are legit if they follow the FTC guideline.
Plexus might be legit under the law, but that doesn’t mean it’s a good investment.
I look at the compensation plan and the income disclosure statement to determine if an mlm a pyramid scheme.
If you look at the Plexus compensation plan, ambassadors are forced to purchase overpriced products to earn the commission.
Recruiting others to become an ambassador is the best option to make money with Plexus.
The more people that you recruit, the more money you earn.
Ambassadors become customers of Plexus, purchasing products to meet the active and qualified requirements.
Isn’t this making Plexus a pyramid scheme?
Well, you don’t have to agree with me.
But you must agree that the Plexus compensation plan was designed to sell Plexus products, converting ambassadors into customers, not business owners.
You will not get rich with Plexus.
Is Plexus Worth It?
If you enjoy Plexus products, then it’s worth it to join for the discount.
But if you are searching for an opportunity to make money from home, then Plexus is not worth it.
However, the decision to become a Plexus Ambassador is yours to make.
I like to ask you this question,
Do you know why you want to start a business?
To make money, right?
And to make money, we invest in a PROFITABLE business!
There are much better and less risky home-based business opportunities compared to mlm opportunities.
I recommend you look at Affiliate Marketing.
As an affiliate marketer, there’s
- No need to purchase a starter kit,
- No Personal Volume (PV) requirement,
- No face-to-face sales,
- No recruiting, and
- The best part, you are working on the computer in your own home or anywhere you like.
Affiliate marketing is one of the most powerful methods to promote and build your mlm team. I recommend you read, The New MLM Affiliate Marketing to learn more.
One business risk that Plexus rarely discusses with new ambassadors is “Business Control”.
As a Plexus ambassador, you have no control over your business.
You must obey Plexus rules and policies to remain in business and receive the commissions.
You have no control over what products to sell or how to promote your business.
What happens if Plexus goes out of business?
All ambassadors are out of business!
You can lose everything and nothing you can do about it. You have zero control over the mlm business.
You build a business to create long-term incomes.
You want to build a system that generates money far into the future. Isn’t this the #1 reason you want to build a successful business?

There are much better home-based business opportunities compared to Plexus.
